Poppies in the Wild (2025) is an original oil painting on canvas. The sides of the artwork are finished in genuine copper leaf, presenting a polished and professional finish. This artwork forms part of my small works collection exploring the theme of "Thinking of Home" and measures 10 x 10 cm.
Artwork description
This wee home presents a tender and idyllic vision, nestled within a field of poppies and wildflowers, embraced by nature's quiet presence. The house, modest in size yet radiating warmth, stands gently among tall trees and a sea of red and golden blossoms. Its pale walls and dark windows evoke a sense of stillness, as if the home is resting, peacefully aware of its special place in the world.
The foreground, bursting with colour and texture, creates a soft boundary between the viewer and the home, almost like a memory, slightly blurred, deeply personal, and full of emotion. The vibrant field suggests life, growth and the passage of time, while the open blue sky above adds a sense of openness and peace.
Home is more than a shelter. It's a feeling of rootedness and sanctuary. It's where life unfolds slowly and meaningfully, surrounded by nature's quiet rhythms. The painting speaks to the idea that home is not only where we live, but where we feel most alive and connected to the world around us.
