The Iris Collection

This body of work is a visual meditation on the iris - its complexity, elegance, and symbolic weight - interpreted through oil, pastel, and artist pencil. Each medium offers a distinct voice, allowing different aspects of the flower's character to emerge.

In oil, the iris becomes lush and layered, its petals rendered with depth and saturation. The slow-drying medium invites a painterly approach, capturing the richness of colour and the sculptural quality of each bloom. By contrast, pastel offers immediacy and softness, lending itself to more atmospheric interpretations - moments where colour and light dissolve into gesture and texture.

Artist pencil brings an entirely different sensitivity. In both monochrome and colour, it allows for fine detail and quiet precision, emphasising the architectural lines of the iris - the folds, veins, and ruffles that often go unnoticed.

Taken together, these works form a conversation between materials and subject. They reflect not only Moya's curiosity about a single botanical form, but also the expressive potential of varied techniques. The iris, in all its forms, becomes both muse and mirror - its shifting presence captured anew with each change in medium.
